2017 NCA Youth Chinese Talent Contest

The 7th annual NCA Youth Chinese Talent Contest is hosted by Nebraska Chinese Association (NCA) and NCA Chinese School and sponsored by the Confucius Institute at University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The purpose of this contest is to encourage children to enjoy learning Chinese, and to increase interest in Chinese culture.
All children ages 5 to 16 are qualified for the contest. Contestants will be divided into groups according to their ages. The competition will include the following categories: Drawing, Photography Dance, Music (Instrumental), Singing, Wushu, Chinese Writing, and Chinese Speech, Recitation, and Talk Show.
Contestants will be judged by professional specialists. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be awarded to the winning contestants in each category and will be announced on September 30th at the NCA 2017 Mid Autumn Festival (see www.omahachinese.net for details). Along with this, every contestant will receive a participation award.

Rules and Regulations

Age of contestants: 5-16 years old

Guidelines for each category: All categories must be related to “Chinese Impressions”

Artwork:
-
Chinese Calligraphy: Can be any type or style.

Chinese Drawing: Can be in any form such as water color, oil painting or sketches.

Size of the artwork must be 16X21 inches nicely secured on the poster board, no glass frame
-
Crafts: Make something creative relating to Chinese culture

Photography: Size: 8x10 on black poster board, list name and age

Bring artwork to the contest by 2pm on 09/23/2017

Dance:
-
Any types of Chinese dances (folk, minority, classical, ballet, modern or recreational dances) are welcome.

The dance should last less than or equal to 4 minutes

Please bring the music CD to Sarah Luo (波波) by Thursday 9/21 to ensure the sound system can play it properly

Singing:
-
Chinese songs in any style including classic, folk, Peking or regional operas, pop songs, etc…

Must sing in Chinese language

Must be less than or equal to 4 minutes

Performance can be in any style such as solo, duet, small groups etc.

Music Instruments: Piano, violin, Saxophone, Guitar, Gu Zheng, Erhu etc.. Contestants may register to play two pieces of music, one of which must be a piece of Chinese music. However, in the event that too many pieces of music are received, we may ask contestants only play the Chinese piece so that the contest can be completed on time.

Each piece should be less or equal to 4 minutes

Performance can be a solo, duet, trio or quartet

Chinese Speech:
1) Age: 5-16
2) Speech Subject: Chinese fable or idiom stories, or jokes or funny stories in your daily life
3) Time: 3 minutes
4) Judging criteria: Each student will be asked two questions after speech. The speech will be judged based on the following categories:
A. Pronunciation and intonation
B. Presentation
C. Clearness
D. Answering the questions -
Chinese Writing:

Any type of writing in Chinese
